The Men Who Stare At Goats

Second post!

Due to unforseen circumstanes (cough...men...cough) I was taken to the cinema for some good old comedy remedy. I was seriously excited about this film as it combined two of my favorite things: George Clooney and oddball comedy.  Although I have a mortal fear of goats, after a battle with one over jelly tots when I was young, I did somehow forget about this and enjoy the touching aspects the actual animals brought to the film.

Based on a book by a British journalist, Jon Ronson, the film follows Ewan McGregor's inteprid reporter who uses the Iraq war as a way to get over his marital problems and become more of a man's man.  I did not feel that the character of Bob was the strongest but that his commentary and normality in this absurd and wild tale was very much needed.  Bob discovers that the United State's military operated a covert training operation which aimed to create super soldiers who had psychic powers.  The sections of film where the philosophy of this group is dealt with are strong and indeed the best laughs come in the retrospective glance at the members of this operation.  This first part of the film is indeed the most enjoyable and really the thread binding the rest of the film together.  The coupling of Clooney and McGregor works and their relationship kept the sections in the desert intersting, even though somewhat incoherent.

Overall, this film really made me laugh at a time when I thought it was impossible to laugh.  It left me wanting to read the novel, willing to re-watch and overall a hope that one day I meet a psychic spy as hot and crazy as Mr Clooney.

First Post

Hi blog world.

This is my first ever foray into blogs; blogs about make-up to be specific. My aims for this is to discuss and swatch make up I've recently bought.

Patience is much appreciated.
